The Dayton Raiders Swim Club was established in 1981 through the merger of two outstanding programs: the Dayton Dolphins, founded in 1958 by Coach Mac Preston at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and the Wright State Raiders, founded in 1978 at Wright State University. By combining the rich tradition of the Dolphins with the energy and ambition of the Raiders, the newly formed Dayton Raiders set out with a shared vision of building one of the nation's premier competitive swimming programs.
Since its founding, the Dayton Raiders have become one of the leading USA Swimming clubs in Ohio's Miami Valley, developing swimmers of all ages and abilities while fostering a tradition of excellence both in and out of the pool.
As a nonprofit organization, the Dayton Raiders are committed to providing young athletes with a year-round opportunity to train, compete and grow through the sport of swimming. Our experienced coaching staff creates a positive, challenging, and supportive environment where swimmers are encouraged to reach their full potential. Coaches continually invest in their professional development by attending educational conferences and earning certifications through the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA), ensuring our athletes benefit from the latest techniques and best practices in the sport.
Our progressive training model is designed to support long-term athlete development, allowing swimmers to advance through each level of the program at the appropriate pace. We emphasize the fundamentals, including technique, starts, turns, underwater skills, balance, core strength and efficient propulsion, during the critical age-group years, providing the foundation necessary for future success at the senior level. We believe that lasting achievement comes from consistent development, patience, and a commitment to mastering the fundamentals.
Beyond fast times and championship performances, the Dayton Raiders strive to develop confident, disciplined and resilient young people. Through the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, accountability, and perseverance, our swimmers gain life skills that extend far beyond the pool. Whether pursuing collegiate athletics, personal fitness, or lifelong friendships, every Raider leaves our program with experiences and lessons that last a lifetime.
